Artist's Statement
I love color. As a child, I loved to play with colored markers to create mosaic-like designs
on paper doilies. Now after raising two children, a career in visual merchandising and
running my own my businesses, I have returned to my love of color.
I began learning my craft the hard way- by trail and error.
I have since studied at the Institute of Mosaic Art in Oakland, California under such
renowned masters of mosaic art, Laurel True and Isaiah Zagar.
After apprenticing with professional tile installers, I have mastered the highly important
technical aspects of creating lasting, durable and beautiful mosaic designs.
My mosaic designs are labor intensive, placing each piece one by one,
paying special attention to the small details by sanding or grinding each mosaic piece to
ensure no sharp edges. Then grout is custom colored to match each design and finally
sealed to withstand the elements.
I am most happy in my studio creating and "playing" with my colors…
glazed porcelain tiles, art and vitreous glass, recycled jewelry, found objects, mirrors,
and china are all part of my mosaic art.
